“Let the sun come. Tervuren is set for a great summer,” says social and welfare alderwoman Lut Kint. From June to September, a mobile sunscreen dispenser will adorn the playground at the Royal Moestuin garden and various events in the municipality.
Skin cancer is one of the fastest growing types of cancer in Flanders. “As a municipality, we have a preventive role. That’s why we’ll use this mobile dispenser during activities and events,” says Lut. One in six Belgians faces skin cancer before the age of 75, mainly due to exposure to the sun.
Over the summer, the mobile sunscreen dispenser will travel to village festivals in Moorsel, Duisburg, and Vossem.
The dispenser is not only for sunscreen but also shows the current UV index so you know whether or not you need the lotion. For every litre of sunscreen given out, West-Flemish firm Sundo will donate money to Belgium’s Foundation against Cancer.
You can also listen to Tervuren dermatologist Caroline Dewulf (in Dutch) talking about skin cancer on Wednesday, June 12, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the room De Eik at Town Hall. https://www.tervuren.be/activiteiten/infoavond-huidkanker-en-preventie
