Every year, Tervuren’s four-part mixed choir chooses a new theme for its concert. “In the past, we’ve done film music, Irish music, a journey through time … and many more. For this concert, we chose ‘peace’ simply because many compositions and songs have been written about it,” said Mia Vandepitte, president of Furacante.
“War has, unfortunately, always existed over the centuries, and so has the desire for peace, as evidenced by the classical compositions on our programme. That our current news is once again dominated by conflict is a very painful reality, but it was not the reason for our concert.”
Tickets can be ordered via https://www.furacante.be/concert-stemmen-voor-vrede. The price is €12 in presale and €15 at the box office. Children under 12 do not pay.
Originating from the St John’s Church Choir in 2006, Furacante now has more than 30 singers. They are under no illusion that their concert will bring peace to the world. “If there is one conclusion that can be drawn from our concert, it is that the language of music—sung in many different languages—gives people the opportunity to pause and reflect on the value of peace in the most beautiful way,” Vandepitte said.
Furacante’s annual concert takes place in St John’s Church on Saturday, November 23, at 8 pm. The conductor is Dominique Bonkain, who teaches piano, ensemble, and instrumental ensemble at the music academies of Lennik and Anderlecht. At the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, Dominique obtained the first prize in solfège and piano with distinction and the first prize in chamber music with great distinction.
Furacante holds rehearsals on Friday evenings from 20:30 to 22:15, upstairs in the main hall of Nettenberg, 1 Hertenbergstraat. For further information, contact info@furacante.be or call +32 476 569 552.
