Our mission
Most EU-focused outlets report on policy and institutions. We report on the reporters: the Brussels press corps, the editors and owners behind them, and the officials, governments and lobbies who try to influence them.
We treat the press corps as a subject in its own right — not gossip, not access journalism and not institutional PR. Our aim is to show readers and fellow journalists how stories are found, framed and contested, and how that shapes Europe’s democratic conversation.
Our motto: Reporting on the reporters shaping Europe.
What we cover
- Press corps — who the Brussels correspondents are, how they work and how the EU media scene functions.
- Media and power — how politicians, institutions and governments clash with journalists or try to influence them.
- Press freedom — threats, intimidation, censorship, lawsuits (SLAPPs) and solidarity within the profession.
- EU media analysis — how EU and European stories are framed, shaped and contested.
- Narrative watch — disinformation, propaganda and the battle over who controls the story.
- Journalist profiles — in-depth reporting on correspondents, editors and people behind the scenes.
- Analysis and commentary — reported opinion grounded in media literacy, accountability and professional standards. Opinion is always labelled.
Who we are
BraveNews.eu was founded and is run by two Brussels-based journalists, who share editing and publishing. All editorial decisions are theirs alone.

Each of us has an author page with our biography, areas of expertise and published work. Some stories carry the byline “BraveNews Staff”; our bylines policy explains when and why.
Ownership and funding
BraveNews.eu is a personal project, launched and operated by Dafydd ab Iago. It is not a company or registered organisation, and it is not owned, controlled or funded by any political party, government, institution, company or media group.
- Owner and publisher.
- Founded — January 2026, in Brussels.
- Funding — paid for by ourselves. We receive no outside funding.
- Profit — the project does not make a profit.
We do not accept money that would compromise our editorial independence. We do not sell access to journalists and we do not publish sponsored content. If we ever carry advertising, it will be clearly marked and have no influence on what we report. If a story involves anyone with a financial link to us, we say so in the story. If the ownership or funding of BraveNews.eu changes, we will update this page.
